Roger Herman

To know the artist’s work is to know Roger Herman loves to paint.  As art critic John Weber wrote, “While Herman’s compositions explore the boundary between abstraction and representation, one of the most significant aspects of his art is its strong allegiance to the sensual, material nature of the mediums he works in.  When Herman paints, he makes the paint itself apart from the image it depicts, an unavoidable presence on the canvas.”  Herman says, “My work is always a search about the possibility of impossibility of painting - whether I’m painting about something or merely painting something…”

Roger Herman has taught at UCLA for two decades.  He has done numerous individual and group exhibitions substantiate his reputation as an internationally recognized artist with more than 45 solo exhibitions in the United States, Mexico, Brazil, France, Germany, and Japan.
