MICHAEL KALISH finds his materials, old, stained, rusted, oxidized, classic American vehicles in the salvage yards of Southern California. The vehicles at these salvage yards have seen countless lives pass through them. Kalish’s work is made solely from his signature medium, the license plate, each piece embraces his ideal of Americana. The subject matter of the work in combination with the way each piece is created, leaps off the wall at the viewer even before the medium is discovered.
