About

Born: 1967, Upland, California
Studied: Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, California, B.F.A., Claremont Graduate School, Claremont, California, M.F.A
Currently lives and works in Los Angeles, California

Couwenberg’s work embodies the culture that surrounded him growing up in Southern California. Clean, sleek lines and colors of the hot rod and custom car world are incorporated and married with texture, shape and geometric form of Mid-century architecture and design. Precision, hard edges and color blocks are contrasted with the warm, hot palette of the LA Basin.
Couwenberg has had numerous solo exhibitions and his work is in the collection of the Crocker Art Museum, Sacramento, CA, Georgia Tech University, Atlanta, GA, Laguna Art Museum, Laguna Beach, Long Beach Museum of Art, Long Beach, CA, among others and is held in many private collections.
