About

Born: 1959, Riverside California
Studied: Stanford, B.A. in International Affairs; attended University of Sao Paulo
Currently lives and works in Los Angeles, California

Brad Howe’s wall sculptures, mobiles, furniture, and freestanding sculptures combine the dynamic planar relationships and solid coloration associated with post-cubist modernism. His art’s playful exuberance, however, owes more to the artistic climates of twenty-first century L.A. and Sao Paolo, where Howe initiated his artistic career.

Howe’s artistic process incorporates humor, inventiveness, and versatility. This is evidenced in the fact that the interplay between experimentation in the studio and the artist’s unique interests are a vital source for inspiration. The interaction between external parameters that his studio or site specific settings pose for his art, allows Howe to approach his process from ever-changing perspectives, allowing his stainless steel, steel, or aluminum pieces to take unpredictable directions.

Artist Statement:
“My sculptures are composed with vitality and celebrate beauty. Their structures are composed with actual or implied kinetic properties aimed at exposing energized moments between connection and disconnection, as well as between strain and serenity.”

Brad Howe’s artworks are represented in numerous corporate collections such as Allergan, Irvine, CA; Baxter, Irvine, CA; Edwards Lifesciences, Irvine, CA; M.I.T., and the permanent collection of the Crocker Museum of Art, Sacramento, CA,  Honolulu Museum of Art, Honolulu, HI, Pasadena Museum of Art, Pasadena, CA, among others.
