Richter began working full time as a painter in 2003, after a formidable career in advertising, graphic design and illustration. Making compelling, well-executed work is a reflection on how influential the commercial art experience has been on his fine art career. His conceptual approach, combined with a compelling color palette and painting process offers an unexpected look into nature’s mystery and intrigue. It is essential to the dramatic composition of every picture. Oftentimes the mere physicality of his work is seen as a statement about our impact on nature and the environments in which we live.

To Reveal is to make known, uncover and cause to be seen. Richter’s paintings and process have always conveyed a sense of uncovering. Working toward, but never really knowing what might be seen. Through the mixing of paint, the layering upon layer of application and then the sanding, scraping- in a sense burnishing- the surface to reveal what’s below. A finish that eludes to something unexpected.

These new Reveal paintings continue to embody that notion and spirit. To disguise and unearth nature; Trees in the forest on the mountain, Waves in a swell on the ocean. Environments that seem familiar or ones we can only imagine. And when these tend to be of a minimalist view they take us to a place of subtlety, creating calm in what is most often a chaotic matter of subject.

Richter’s work has been selected for the National Landscape exhibition and several prestigious institution exhibitions including the Ucross Foundation, the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History, the Harwood Museum and the Laguna Art Museum.
