Lives and works in Los Angeles, California
Cohen’s cityscapes and urban views of San Francisco and Los Angeles capture the unique light that defines California’s landscape, infusing the paintings with a sense of tranquility and harmony. Avoiding highly contrasting colors, Cohen emulates the natural hues of his cities, casting fog over San Francisco. Or catching the soft pinks and yellow of a sunset over southern California. Cohen works in the landscape tradition devised in 17th Century Europe, referencing Rembrandt, Poussin, Corot, and Bonnard, as well as having a strong relationship to the plein Air painters of the Northern and Southern California.
Cohen exhibits throughout the United States and has had recent museum exhibitions at the San Diego Museum of Art and the Laguna Art Museum. His work is held in the collections of the Oakland Museum, Laguna Art Museum, and the Orange County Museum of Art, as well as in many private and corporate collections.
