Meehan, is an artist and designer whose work is heavily inspired by his unique upbringing, and Southern California’s “Aquaculture”. Born and raised in Newport Beach, California, Meehan debuted his now iconic series of “Surf Panel” works in 2014. His efforts blur the lines between painting, sculpture, and minimalist design; bringing an entirely new, contemporary element to physically interpret the meaning of what aquaculture is. The concept stems from the love of time spent on the Pacific Ocean, the now forgotten yacht building industry of Costa Mesa, and a minimalist aesthetic approach.
The artist utilizes simple color palates to draw connections from his own experiences and feelings of his native Southern California community. The idea of how to share the experience of these concepts in a modern and sophisticated plane is executed by creating a new object representative of these unique cultures via the use of familiar materials and processes commonly found in the manufacture of the yacht and surf industries. The work is aimed at striking a nostalgic and emotional chord with in the viewer. His work engages the audience to interact and discover their own subjectivity, and is ever evolving from piece to piece.

Meehan’s work has been featured in solo shows and group shows in California and Japan.
